Shattered Chess introduces a chess variation where strategic use of the board is central. Taking pieces fractures squares, and further damage can create Abysses. These voids alter piece movement and attacks. Rooks, bishops, and queens must maneuver around the broken spaces, but knights can jump across them. The rules for castling, en passant, and promotion remain in effect.
