Have you ever wondered why SKILL.md files appear as plain text in MacOS Preview? showmd is a complimentary, native Quick Look extension for macOS that displays Markdown in an attractive format. It parses YAML frontmatter into a metadata table that is collapsible, starting collapsed and expanding with a single click. This feature is unique to this viewer. Additionally, it presents Agentic AI XML tags, along with seventeen other elements, as clearly labeled and bordered blocks rather than raw angle brackets.
