QR codes store information using black and white squares, a design suited to cameras from 1994. Cameras have advanced significantly since then, but the squares have not. We used that extra capability to improve aesthetics. TLcube divides each hexagonal cell into three diamond shaped faces and records data by the relative brightness order of these faces, not their absolute values. This means the data remains intact even with changes in exposure, gamma, or contrast. The system offers four distinct silhouettes, includes an optional standard QR code fallback, and provides a browser based generator and scanner. It is completely free to use, just like traditional QR codes. There are no licensing fees or costs per scan. The project is released under the Apache 2.0 license.
